What is Nutritional Medicine?

“Let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food”

-Hippocrates, 440 BC

Nutritional Medicine is a holistic approach (rather than a one- size- fits -all approach) that uses the science of nutrients, how they are absorbed, transported, metabolised, converted, stored and excreted by the unique individual. The practice takes into account the history of the presenting complaint, past medical history, familial history, dietary and lifestyle factors to find the root cause.

Clinical nutritionists are tertiary qualified, registered with an association and use up-to-date scientific evidence to inform their practice. They understand that the nature of disease is complex and therefore often use a multifaceted treatment approach.

There is often no quick fix, however, Your clinical nutritionist will work together with you to assist you in achieving your specific health goals through a customised treatment plan; whether it be through a specific meal plan, therapeutic supplementation, functional pathology analysis and most importantly provide you with education on the ‘why’.
